Mortality comes to us all.
Pratchett has Alzheimer's disease
Damn, damn, damn.
You know nobody lives forever; but, there's always that moment of shock when you face a reminder of your own mortality by watching people that you respect deal with it. It's a double shock with Alzheimer's, as, the person isn't taken from you at once, but slowly, piece by piece, bit by bit. I've seen Pratchett talk live once, and, he's a vibrant, intelligent and very funny speaker. It is very sad to me that type of wit will face mortality one slow deteriorating day, after another.
Death is always a tragedy, whether it be one or a million. But the way we are wired, it's the personal reminders that hit home the hardest. Tags: books, philosophy
